Three Weeks left to play this summer. What shall we do???

The last weeks of summer are upon us. We have a little over three weeks until Labor Day.  Then the kids are back  to school or daycare, some for the first time. I wanted to find some  last minute, close to home, fun things for the whole family to do before the summer fun is gone.

The first stop on my quest is The Heckscher Farm : Located in Stamford,CT Stamford Museum and Nature Center

The Heckscher Farm is a 10 acre oasis of rural life, where visitors can relax and enjoy a slower pace of life. At the Heckscher Farm you are invited to explore their educational farm, to discover the sights, sounds, and smells of farm life. You can also observe staff conduct the daily chores that maintain this active farm. Some of the exciting events and exhibits include a “New Animals in Action” show and “Otterly Amazing“  a show dedicated to otters. You can bring a picnic lunch to eat in the meadow and then walk over 80 acres of nature trails. The trail is an opportunity for people of all abilities to enjoy the sights and sounds that our natural setting has to offer. Which is “AWESOME”  for families with strollers. The kids can end their day playing in “Nature’s Playground“.  If you ever wondered what the world would look like from an animal’s point of view, then this is the spot for you, and of course your children. You can scale a spider’s web or walk into a hawk’s nest.  The playground is very accomdating for all ages.  Please visit their website for times and prices.  http://www.stamfordmuseum.org/heckscher-farm.html.

Stay tuned to see where me and my family will go next!!!!

It is that time of year again for Greenwich Avenue’s Annual Sidewalk Sales.

Sidewalk Sale Days start on Thursday, July 15th and runs through Saturday the 17th.
Then after all your shopping is done you can help celebrate Greenwich’s  370th Anniversary  from 3:00pm – 8:oopm.
There will be Food and Free live entertainment in Greenwich Commons. Check out their link for more details.
Please stop by and come inside to see all our great bargains. We will have balloons, crayons, and Wikki stiks for the children, and some great Air Conditioning for the adults. We also have some great sale items on our website if you can’t make it into the store.
Why are sidewalk sales such a great event? Customers usually like sidewalk sales because they can look for bargains without having to enter the store. Sidewalk sales are also convenient for people that are walking dogs or pushing children in strollers. They benefit retailers by allowing them to entice new customers with items outside the store attract attention. Having a sidewalk sale is also a great way for retailers to please regular customers as seasonal stock may be reduced by large amounts.  It is a really good time to stock up on holiday gifts and back to school items.
Over the years sidewalk sales have grown. Multiple stores, whole streets, or even towns participate. The Sales are not only limited to the Sidewalk. Lots of bargains can be found inside the stores also.

Summer Fun….No Batteries Required

In today’s world of gadget’s and gizmo’s. Almost everything we buy needs batteries, electricity, or a USB plug. When I was a child the things I enjoyed most were the long days outside playing, riding my bike, and using my imagination. Summer is about simplicity. When we stayed inside on  a rainy day we would color, have puppet shows, or play” make pretend”.  I do not remember my family having a never- ending supply of batteries and chargers.

As I was cleaning the toy section the other day, I realized what “awesome” toys we sell at giggle. I knew all along what we sold, but it wasn’t until that moment that it hit me….I had similar toys when I was younger and boy were they FUN.

For instance take the BILIBO. What is it? I really don’t know because it is whatever your child wants it to be. It is an award-winning toy that stimultaes the imagination and can be something different everyday.

Some other great items to have on hand this summer are jumpropes, items for dress-up, an endless supply of art’s and crafts, toys for the beach, books and puzzles.

Please stop by and check out our full line of toys.  Feel free to play and let your imagination wander.

“Music Exists for the Purpose of Growing an Admirable Heart.”

Please join us for an exciting new event…Music Class.
Instructor Heather Watsin Hardie from the Greenwich Suzuki Academy will be hosting an interactive music class for parents and children. During our first class the children learned to march to a bongo beat and stomp their feet to the rhythm.   Parents  you will enjoy watching your baby develop rhythmic and melodic awareness, memory and social skills. Heather will work with parents to build a repertoire of lullabies, action songs and nursery rhymes. The most important skill for children at an early age is the ability to listen.

The Suzuki Academy strives to bring music to children by using Dr. Suzuki’s loving and nurturing approach. Shinichi Suzuki had always loved children and became very interested in teaching them. He thought that children could learn music just as they learned to speak.  Through his teaching, Dr. Suzuki showed teachers and parents everywhere what children could do. He also believed that hearing and playing great music helped children become good people with beautiful, peaceful hearts.

Please join us for our next class. We are sure you and your child will have a blast.
Our next two classes are:
Friday May 7th at 1:30pm
Friday June 4th at 1:30pm

For additional information about the Sukuki Academy  please visit greenwichsuzukiacademy@yahoo.com

Dan Zanes “ROCKED” Greenwich

On Saturday, April 1oth,  Dan Zanes performed to a crowd of over 120 fans inside the store.   Dan put on an absolutely amazing performance and wrapped it all up with a dance party!  Dan then stood for pictures, signed autographs, and answered questions.  He is such an amazing performer and we are so happy he is a friend of giggle.

After the show Dan sang a solo performance to the employees of “While The Music is Playing” from his CD  ”Catch That Train” .   It was a very special moment for all of us.  We want to thank everyone who came to the show and hope to see you again.

“Catch That Train” to see Dan Zanes

That’s right!  Grammy Award-winning performer Dan Zanes will be here on Saturday, April 10th at 11:00am.   Dan will be playing songs from “House Party, “Catch That Train”, as well as his new CD, “76 Trombones.”  The New York Times Magazine said, “Zanes’ kids music works because it is not kids music; it’s just music–music that’s unsanitized, unpasteurized, that’s organic even.”  In the 80’s  Dan was a member of the band called The Del Feugos.   After his daughter Anna was born, Dan would play music to her with a group of fathers he met at the playground in the West Village.  That was the start of it all.  We are so excited to have him here.  Click here for more information on Dan Zanes.
